Church is kind of like the original big summer blockbuster. So it sort of makes sense that they'd have marquees for which they write slogans and bible verses on. 

Anyway, it seems like church attendance, just like movie attendance, is going through a rough patch. So writing funny and at times dirty jokes is their best way of drawing an audience.
